David Geffen is a
prominent bisexual and head mafioso

1992,
SPY Magazine identified
movie mogul David Geffen as "Hollywood's powerful gay tong." SPY
Magazine also wrote that "gay individuals have found the industry
an extraordinary contradiction: an opportunity to reap extravagant
rewards, while, at the same time, being forced to deny their cultural
identities." How do homosexuals in the entertainment business "reap
rewards" while denying who they are? By forming a powerful clique--often
referred to as the Hollywood Gay Mafia. David Geffen is, of course,
an upper class mafioso. Geffen is worth over one billion dollars
and the amount of power held in his hands is so great that it is
almost dangerous. He and the Mafia represent the decline of homophobia
in America.
The Hollywood Gay Mafia
is not a group of bandits or minstrels; it is a clique of gay and
witty executives whose success in the entertainment business is
incredible. Because of David Geffen and his powerful gay entourage,
the entertainment industry has become open to homosexuality. An
insider of the entertainment industry says, "Look, there is no homophobia
in the industry... It's a very liberal industry and people are much
more tolerant than anywhere else." Even David Geffen has "come out
of the closet" and is accepted as a homosexual in the entertainment
industry. In fact, Geffen denies ever trying to hide his sexuality.
One of Geffen's executives says, "nobody ever talked about it [homosexuality]
until he was out of the closet himself. The Gay Mafia was never
referred to openly." In 1991, in Vanity Fair, Geffen claimed that
he was bisexual and that he went from "being in love with Cher to
being in love with Marlo Thomas to being in love with a guy from
Studio 54." Though Geffen openly admits that he is bisexual, he
does not want people to think that he is "too gay." For example,
Geffen recently sued a portrait artist after the artist made a portrait
that looked "too homosexual." The artist was petrified when Geffen
turned against him. However, Geffen ultimately loosened his menacing
grip and decided not to press charges.
David Geffen and the
Hollywood Gay Mafia have provided gay individuals in America with
a sense of identity and authority. In America, the melting pot of
the world, being gay has become acceptable. Many gay forces lurk
beneath the grime and gravel of the streets of America. When will
these gay forces emerge from their shadows? The Hollywood Gay Mafia
and David Geffen are the prime example of the emergence of gays
in modern society. The entertainment industry's acceptance of homosexuals
parallels an advancement in American society: the annihilation of
homophobia. Why should homophobia exist in the land of the free
and the home of the brave? It should not.

lifestyle always apealed to me.. if someone said no.. and my gut
reaction says yes.. well. i might do it.. so to me .. doing my own
thing is hip.. and so is being gaY. it's doin my own thing and still
being a good person even though others may not think so.

What is hip about being gay is that it is being seen more in shows
that are primarely being seen by teens like me, like in Dawsons
Creek the character Jack Mcphee that is gay and still one of the
hippest people there. The movie Edge of Seventeen showed to people
how it is somewhat to be a gay teen that is finding himself out
while still in H.S.

IM+===========shinji307: Hey rex. All my life I was embarrassed
about my sexuality. But watching the Queer as Folk UK show I finally
was able to see that it can be "cool" to be gay. Odd as it sounds,
this was never a thought that I had growing up in the closet. Now
at 24, I'm learning to be gay - my own way. Not the way that the
media - gay or straight - tells me too. It's exciting. I'm totally
excited about Showtime's production of Queer as Folk. I think it
could do a lot to encourage others like me to be proud - and help
to change the stereotypes in much of America.
That is what they are breeders! No offense to them. We are the
recluses (according to breeders) and they are breeders (according

Hey, just started listening to your show this week, very enlightening.
I answer to your question hip to be gay, personally I think it's
hip because the city I stay in, Edinburgh (Scotland), we now have
gay bars and clubs on main streets and not in the side alleys anymore.
We have 3 bars alone on the same street, right beside the main theatre
in Edinburgh.
The good thing is, when straights walk in to the gay bars, realise
where they are, they quickly turn tails and walk back out. Kills
me with laughter everytime.
RE Queer as Folk, the first series was amazing, seen the second
series, won't tell you what happens :) Look forward to listening
