jakes here, im happy to be gay here in south africa... why?, i
suppose the biggest thing is being honest, i tend to get quiet and
depressed when i lie. so that's what keep's me happy, and that i
have a wonderfull boyfriend, and his and my parent are ok with it!

GLAAD, who's been trying to negotiate with Paramount, finally has
had it with Paramount and Dr. Laura, and has called for Paramount
to drop the show (GLAAD's press release follows). This means all
out war between the gay community and Paramount. Stay tuned for
more updates, our protest against Paramount is Tuesday in Hollywood.

LOS ANGELES, TUESDAY, MARCH 15, 2000 -- Laura Schlessinger, syndicated
talk show personality, today recanted a recently issued public apology
to people hurt by her comments regarding the lesbian and gay community.
In a column by Don Feder appearing in The Boston Herald, Schlessinger
said her statement released March 10 was a "clarification" and was
"not an apology." Her March 10 statement had read: "Regrettably,
some of the words I've used have hurt some people, and I am sorry
for that."
GLAAD Executive Director Joan M. Garry said, "This disavowal of
her own words demonstrates that Schlessinger cannot be held accountable
for what she says publicly. Because she has breached the integrity
of her own statement, GLAAD now has no assurance that Schlessinger
will not publicly defame lesbians and gay men in her radio or upcoming
television broadcasts.
"In its March 10 statement regarding Schlessinger, Paramount Television
Group committed 'to present society's issues without creating or
contributing to an environment of hurt, hate or intolerance,'" said
Garry. "GLAAD now calls upon Paramount to demonstrate that commitment
by abandoning its plans to produce and distribute any program featuring
Laura Schlessinger."
